Drinking Water for Vancouver is collected in 3 Watersheds: Capilano, Seymour and Coquitlam from rainfall and snowmelt. Due to the nature of the water (rain and snowmelt), it does not get in contact for a long time with rocks or minerals, so we have very soft water (very low limescale). 

The collected water is then filtered and disinfected in treatment plants. For the distribution, CHLORINE is added to keep bacteria out. There are several re-chlorination stations throughout the distribution system and as closer you are to any of the stations as more you will notice the odour and taste of chlorine. 

There also is the risk of LEAD in our water as it is transported through older pipe systems. Since 1989 the BC building code was revised to restrict the use of lead in plumbing components, but there are a lot of old pipe systems still in use which exposes lead as well as other build ups like RUST into our water. 

The use of PESTICIDES and their presence in our water is less regulated. In example Atrazine, a pesticide that is very commonly used in Canada remains below Canadian limits but well above European standards which ban its use.

Unfortunately due to the heavy use of plastic bottles and microfiber fabrics we have MICROPLASTIC in our water also.
