New "Mudroom" for a North Vancouver family home, Ikea Hack a Solution for Shoe Storage & Organizing Bags and more
It is always hard to find enough storage in an entrance area for a family of four and in the smaller homes you have limited space. Build ins are quite expensive and often size down the space available, especially if you like to keep it open and airy and have different heights to deal with like in our case we had a small area beside stairs. So we created a "mudroom" area out of some ikea parts which functions well. For everybody who is interested we used 2 LEKSVIK racks each with 5 hooks, one to be used for the kids at a lower hight and one for the adults and build a bench out of the NORDLI series which serves as storage for shoes, bags, gloves & more. I love this new quality modular drawer system. You can customize and stack the drawer units. The come in different width and are all soft closing. The possibilities are endless and it is easy to add units at a later time. When the storage needs grew. In our case we added a Bamboo counter top from the Ikea ALDERN bathroom series. To serve as seating area for the kids and adults. The counter depth needed a bit of an adjustment but other wis it was a perfect fit. One tip at the end for what ever project you like to plan you can hack a lot of Ikea series to customize and use for different areas. Just watch out that anything you need to resize is full wood not particle board and veneer otherwise its hard to cut it down and have a quality finished look.
